‘Beautiful, these sweets have nothing on you, but I hope you’ll enjoy them all the same. Feel better soon. M.’

Frankie gives me back the little note she was holding and sighs. “No wonder you can’t stop blushing: this guy is… wow.”

I sigh along with her.

Wow: that’s a good definition for Mason, especially when you have a brain as muddled as my own and can’t even blame the feeling on pain meds only.

“You are still going to give me a play-by-play of everything that happened with that hunk yesterday; there’s no escaping it! Especially not after this.” Frankie finishes looping an elastic around the end of her long black braid and points at the box in my lap.

I peer inside of it and I smile again, blushing to the top of my ears.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when Frankie got the door and came back with it, claiming it was for me.

He sent me a care package full of goodies: cookies, chocolates, macarons and candies!

I think I’ve gained five pounds just from staring at the mouthwatering, expensive delicacies and my fate was sealed after the first dark chocolate and hazelnut praline touched my lips: I’m so going to murder every bite this box contains!

Thank God for Frankie, she has a sweet tooth worse than mine and offered to help me polish everything off.

“I’ve already told you everything!”

She scoffs. “What? That stingy recap you just gave me was everything?! You got distracted by dogs, crashed into Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome, splashed coffee all over the poor man and then he started playing Sexy Good Samaritan and somehow you ended up agreeing to spend the evening with him at his place and then you were all over each other. That’s it?”

I nod. “Pretty much…”

She gives me a disbelieving look. “Right… I so don’t think so, girlfriend.”

I huff, looking at the ceiling and then back at my best friend. “There is more, you’re right, but it’s not facts that I’m withholding here, more like some of the things that are going around my head and it’s not because I don’t want to tell you, Fran, it’s more like I don’t even know where to begin with. There’s so much I need to figure out and when I can make it all come out of my mouth in any coherent way I’m going to need your help and then after I bore you to death and back with my doubts you’ll be sorry you even asked or you’ll just end up smothering me with a pillow to shut me up.”

Frankie laughs and comes sit in front of me on the low coffee table. She pats my shoulder sympathetically. “Not a chance. If I didn’t smother you when you were crying over Jerkson, I certainly won’t do it if you need my advice while drooling over this dreamboat piece of man cake you fell for.”

“Ha, ha. You’re so funny, Frankie, really…”

She smirks. “Oh, I know.” She stands up and disappears into our tiny little kitchen.
